Garcinia Cambogia Plant
Garcinia Cambogia has lately grabbed the attention of many health enthusiasts and now when the fruit extract is available under various brand names, you might be thinking whether you can grow it of your own. Definitely it’s possible and all you need is lot of determination and little care. If you are from India or Southeast Asia then the natural climate prevailing at your place would support the growth of Garcinia Cambogia but if you are placed at some other region then you have to follow some simple care tips to grow this fabulous fruit in your courtyard.

To start with, you can first educate yourself about the growth pattern of this super fruit so that you are ready to wait long enough during the growing stage.

  • Garcinia Cambogia plant grows into a voluminous “Cambodge Tree” over years. The colour of the tree is striking green.
  • The normal seedling takes about 10 to 12 years to grow into tree and this is when it starts bearing fruits.
  • The yield of the tree keeps on changing from one tree to another as there are male trees, hermaphrodites, and good quality mother trees.
  • To get the best quality yield, you may grow the tree from healthy mother tree grafts.

Now, knowing this fact about Garcinia Cambogia tree, it may be clear that you will have to wait for next decade before yielding the fruits of your seeds. Let us now have a look at the process of planting this natural fat burner in your gardens.

  1. Choosing the right season :  Plants grow well in their favourable seasons and when you are starting with some tree planting like this, you may always wait for the right season to come. The spring season is the perfect season to plant Garcinia Cambogia as it will get maximum sunlight and moisture in this period. This will help the seeds to germinate or the sapling to get used to the new surroundings fast.
  2. Preparing the pot : Garcinia Cambogia tree attains the height of about 12 feet even when grown in pot. You may keep this in mind while placing the pot. The 20 gallons pot would be the appropriate choice. Drill the wholes at the bottom of this pot to allow excess water to drain away. You can cover the bottom of the pot with gravel up to 2 inches. If you are planting it on the ground then it is advisable that you plant it about 30 feet away from other trees as this way you will ensure its health and the quality of future yield.
  3. Right soil mixture : The regular garden soil is not recommended for Garcinia Cambogia, as this soil is more prone to diseases and weeds. The tree is adapted to Asian environments and if you plant it in garden soil then there are chances that it dies immature. You can make a special potting mixture for this plant by mixing organic compost and garden soil in one is to one proportion. The organic compost would be required periodically even after the tree reaches its full grown stage as this will increase the fruit yield of the tree.  This mixture is somewhat same as the soil mixture you see in the rainforests and hence favourable to the growth of Garcinia Cambogia. The soil mixture may be used to fill the pots up to three quarters. At this point, your pot is ready to plant the sapling.
  4. Planting the sapling : The roots of the sapling may now be planted in the soil mixture filled in the pot. Once the roots are at place, you can put in more soil mixture over it and also around it until you have three inches space left from the top. Don’t fill-up the pot till the edge as once the sapling will start growing, it will take more space and eventually the soil will start flowing out of the pot. This is not what you want and hence keeping the safe distance from the top is strictly recommended.
  5. The growth phase:Once the sapling is in its place and roots are well settled in the soil, the plant will start growing. You can keep the pot under greenhouse to offer controlled atmosphere or you can also take it to the bright sunny space in your courtyard to let it blossom to its fullest. The sunlight and temperature from 70 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit are the ideal parameters for the growth of this tree. If you have greenhouse then maintaining this temperature would not at all be difficult.
The proper care taken during initial growth phase would turn out to be great growth booster throughout. Well-maintained saplings turn into healthy trees and eventually give good yield. Don’t forget this is your future and you cannot take shortcuts in shaping your future for sure.

Garcinia Cambogia FruitWhat if you don’t have sapling and need to grow the plant from the seed?

If you don’t have sapling then you can use the seeds. Following steps may be taken for the germination of seeds.

  • Seeds may be pilled until the white coloured cotyledons are visible. These cotyledons are then placed in the 550 ppm mixture of gibberellic acid and water. The soaking is carried out for 12 hours.
  • The seeds are then planted in one inch deep mixture of seed starting mix where they germinate.
  • The seed starting mix should always be kept damp to let the seeds germinate faster. The germination process may take anything from three weeks to three long months. Those looking forward to have quicker sprouting can place the cotyledons in the distilled water and keep it covered. The sprouting will take place in 10 to 12 days.
  • Once your seeds are germinated, you can start with the above mentioned steps.
Maintaining the plant
After your Garcinia Cambogia plant has started shaping up, you now need to maintain it well. During the growth stage of the plant, you may keep the following points in mind.
  • Periodically remove the weeds from the pot as they may turn out to be fatal for your plant. The weeds would take away the nutrition from the soil and the great Garcinia plant will not grow because of lack of these nutrients. Apart from that, even if the plant grows successfully then also the quality of yield will be affected in long run. Hence, keep an eye on all such unwanted guests dwelling in the pot and if possible remove them at the first sight.
  • Watering is another important routine that needs to be maintained while growing some plant or tree. You can water your plant weekly and if the need arises then do it twice a week. Water is essential for your plant but excess watering can turn out to be disaster. Again, watering plays a major role in initial growth phase as more water at this stage would drown away your sapling as well.
The above steps would yield you great results. All you have to do is put in your 100% in this process and keep your patience on, then only you will find the health packed Garcinia Cambogia right in front of you for daily consumption.
